Classic Wooden boats

"M/Y LORIS"

This was in 1913 equivalent to what the Cigarette 45ft powerboat stands for today. Luxury, speed and numbers of seats but less berth. But on the other hand, someone rich enough to order this kind of boat at that time wanted pleasure not backache. The owner was Ivar Kreuger, buisnessman and the man who gave the world the matchbox.

A classic yacht saved and back in the water.

In february 1913 Ivar Krueger contacted the famous boat designer Knut Ljungberg and asked him to design a new boat. Four month later the sharp stem of Loris was ready to cleave the waves. The first engine only gave her a topspeed of 12 knots. In 1922 after world war one, it was replaced by a 200hp Sterling engine witch took her up to 22 knots. 1929 Mr Krueger wanted to go even faster, a 300hp Sterling Coastguard was put into the slim hull of this beautyfull yacht, the top speed now increased to astounding 27knots!

In 1932 the "black thursday on Wallstreet" occured witch tragicly led to Ivar Kreuger' suicide in Paris. His empire crashed and Loris was sold by auction to Denmark. Back in the 60's she had several owners. In the mid 70's she was for sale in Germany. She was brought back to Sweden and sold again 1983. After ten years uncovered in rain and snow on a marina in Stockholm todays owners finally laid their careing hands on this legendary mahogany yacht. Unfortunately most of her was in such bad condition that only the hull could be kept, the rest has been redone. Loris was build to go fast so therefor she was also very thin in her construction. So when careless owners left her to be one with the nature again, there was not much to stop it. But, she was saved and the renovation or maybe restauration was completed in 1998. Today she is one of Swedens many classic wooden boats in mint condition.

A real classic

No place for the common man in 1913. You can almost smell the cigars and cogniac.
