From dawn of time nature has used a system called structural violence to try to preserve power and influence within a certain group of people. The original structural violence was the inheritance of power, position, wealth, and influence to the male offspring. Later on females were included in this system, by that time the system was more or less history.
Beginning with the 19th century society had come to reward intellectual capacity as well. This ment that intelligent people from poor backgrounds had a chance of moving up in society. Society noticed the benefits from this type of structural violence, and the more advanced societies made education available to all of its citizien during the 20th century. This ment that your position in society could be earned using intelligence. This is also a form of structural violence since one has to prove oneself through education.
Both inherited and aquired power through intelligence are based on structural violence. That is systems to promote individuals that are judged by the majority to be usefull or good individuals for society.
Late in the 20th century a new type of individual showed up and gained alot of influence in society and its development. This is the individual with talent, such as rock stars, athletes, movie stars, artists and skilled businessmen and so on. These individuals are deemed good for society by the majority of the citiziens of society.
It is my understanding of evolution that structural violence serves no purpose within democracy.
