In dictatorships people with infantile personality dominate society. When such a society develops towards democracy it will be susceptible to genocide, since this transfer will mean that people with infantile personality becomes marginalized. They will therefore try to create an environment that make it possible for them to rise to power once again. What they do is to polarize every possible issue and in this way create tensions in society that lead to civil war and genocide. People with infantile personality becomes marginalized as soon as people start discussing issues and how to resolve them. People with infantile personality wants to tell us what the world looks like, because to them there is nothing to discuss. Everything is perfectly clear to these individuals. If we want piece we need to love each other according to these individuals. They don't understand that two people can accept each other and live in piece despite disagreeing on some issue. They also have a problem with understanding that you can dislike someone without persecuting or hating him. If you dislike someone, break him. That's there view. Either you are friendly or hostile towards others. To just accept to avoid people you dislike is an immensely complex idea that they can not fully grasp. They want to solve the issue by erradicating the problem. Their solution to the problem of disliking people is called genocide. Problem solved.
People with infantile personality do not like democracy since they become marginalised in a society that solves issues by discussing them. It's of primary concern to these individuals to prevent democracy to establish itself. In Iraq we can see how these individuals are systematically trying to create tension between Sunni and Shia muslims. All of these efforts are aimed at creating a civil war that might include genocide. It's my understanding that there is interaction between people in the region. That is particularly dangerous for the dictatorships in Iran and Syria, because of the oppression and poverty in these countries. One should be suspicious of all regims that are dictatorships. It's in their interest to undermine the process in Iraq. If there is anarchy people with infantile personality blossom, because that is perfectly logical to them and acceptable. Democracy does not remove poverty, but it makes an concerted effort to improve peoples lives. Freedom is a part of democracy and it makes people happy without costing a dime and this is fundamentally the reason why people will defend democracy. All other things being equal. Notice that Hamas is trying to make piece with Israel an impossibility by using suicide bombers. Hamas wants piece and their way is terror. This is a polarisation of the issue that can not be resolved. However the Palestinian president has been smart enough to include them in the piece process as well as the democratisation process. Thus removing the argument that no one listen (respect) to them and no one gives them any influence. These are their main reasons for killing innocent people that have been neutralized. The Palestinian president will also need to disarm these people, but I'm sure he's got a plan for how to do that too. Like everything else piece will not arrive tomorrow by some magic. It's a long process that requires work from day one.
