There will be an updated and reworked version of DM-INF-DesertTactics... Above a screenshot from the beta testing.

2001-12-26

My first map are now finished! The new name is DM-INF-DesertTactics (forget everything else!) and the name are inspired of the essence of the map; the environment are supposed to encourage tactical creative thinking. Simply; if you don't think, you are soon history since the enemy can sneak up from almost any direction. It is quite open but also have many alternative routes (or no particular routes at all!) and lot of hiding places since the desert is full of rolling sand dunes, bomb craters, ruins and rocks. The map comes in one day version and one night version.

In many aspects this map is a test area for my mapping concept that I call THE TACTICAL HALF TRANSPARENT MAPPING CONCEPT (see link above). In short it's about creating map environments that are not of the two opposites; completely open and not completely protected, instead something in between to keep the tension all the time. The player should have some kind of cover reasonable close in most areas and should not be to safe even inside houses and so on (they should have dangerous windows, explosion holes and so on).

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I like to talk, but I stop now... Go ahead and

With the permission from the author I have converted the StrikeForce map GreySkies to INF. I was about to release it, but unfortunately I ran into problems! The map itself are just wonderful but since I am no reap mapper and cant really control the editor, I didn't know how to make the archive size manageable small. As it is now it requires may of the original game StrikeForce general texture files which result in a 90 mb zip file! But if you have the mod StrikeForce installed the map is only 2,4 mb. If you have a broad-band connection I suggest that you do that! Go to this the following link for download and more info.

I have modified another map, DM-Calamaya (author: Smithnwessun) that basically already are a wonderful map (good maps are the only ones that inspire me) with it's nice tropical feeling, the sun and the rolling waves, but I also saw some potentials how it could be even better.

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE DONE: I added some covers (using my THT-mapping concept-look below in this document what that is), mostly on the open unprotected beach areas to make these areas possible to use in a tactical way. What can be more pleasant than combat in the warm beach sand close to the cooling water? When you take cover close to the water, please not the splashing sound when the enemies bullets that passes you hit the water... Anyhow, the biggest problem I saw in the map was that the bots was almost dead even as alive, they didn't do a thing! Just standing there, get stuck everywhere, and worst of all, sometimes whole teams jumped in to the water for a swim... Simply, they refused to fight, and rather preferred to act like tourists instead...

I also made an Capture The Flagg-version so you as gamer have a goal, something to fight for. The bots first seemed to be impossible to perform any fighting spirit, but finally they suddenly woke up and now perform quite well.

In short the result gives me and my network buddies a blast and that's good enough for me, but I gladly share it with more people. Simply, a wonderful original map have closed in to it's potentials.

Download it (not working) and test for yourself . Note, if you want to compare with the original map, you find it on http://www.planetunreal.com/realmaps.

There is now possible to download a test map pack where I test my mapping ideas that you can read about in the "
