ARE WE WHO PLAY THIS TYPE OF SHOOTING GAMES VIOLENT, NON-INTELLECTUAL, CRAZY WAR-ROMANTICS? IS IT UNETHICAL TO PLAY THIS TYPE OF GAMES
I can't speak for everybody, but I know that much that MOST people who play shooting games are NOT violent, non-intellectual, crazy war-romantics. It just happen that these fighting gaming scenarios are very functional to create conditions to compete with others in a sports-like way that at the same time gives a sense of being thrilled in a way that ordinary sports games cant provide. With other words: It's NOT about the killing in itself, it's about some kind of sport-situation with a more thrilling scenario. I think most gamers see it like this.
But still, personally I have some kind of mixed feelings. To be honest; it can feel a bit strange to admit that I'm thrilled about these violent oriented scenarios but I'm a very curious person and one of my motives to allow my self to enjoy playing this types of games is that I look at it as some kind of self-investigation to create understanding; I wanna know what mechanisms that are involved when my self and other people gets their kicks here. In real life I work with soft things as graphic design, art and music and perhaps I want to have a glimpse on how I would manage to handle a situation where all those things are gone; in a brutal, physical survival-of-the-fittest-situation (but without risking anything!). Those who refuse to even test fighting games and think they therefore are better and more morally and ethical persons, just miss a opportunity to get to know what trigs in these games. I can't say it's totally innocent mechanisms that creates the kick; somewhere it's all probably starts with what the genetic code tells us to get stimulation from; defending the group etc. But I think normal sports triggs the same feelings! Anyway, when you allow yourself to play, you at least learn to know what it is, so you can recognise the harmless expressions in this from the dangerous expressions.
IT'S BETTER TO KNOW THE TRUTH AND HANDLE IT, THAN PRETEND IT'S NOT THERE!
