You poke around the tangled stems and leaves for a while with one shoe. The missing figurine should have fallen somewhere close to its plinth. You do not find it, but you do however turn up, half-buried in the soil, a large iron key of a kind that is certainly not in common use any more. You brush it off and turn it over in your hands, but find no clues as to its origin or purpose. A sudden rustling noise distracts you. As you look up, you shudder to see that the sea bird's wings are raised - as you are quite sure they were not before - and its stone head is turned towards you. You don't much like these surroundings. If you like, you can put the key in your pocket before quickly going to explore the back of the house (turn to 15) or the vegetable garden (turn to 53).
