You awake on a hard wooden floor. It is quite dark around you. You sit up with a start as it all comes back to you - the missing disc! The house! And the frightening experience that followed... You feel your head and discover a sore lump, but at least your skull is intact. And beside you on the floor is the disc! You grab it and look upwards to see a window some way above, letting in just a little light. There doesn't seem to be any easy way of knowing how long you were out. Getting to your feet, you discover that you are in an attic, cluttered here and there with old coffers, sheets draped over pieces of furniture, ancient-looking oak cupboards and racks of old suits and dresses. Everything is very still, but it's actually not completely quiet: you can hear an intermittent banging from nearby which must have been going on since before you woke up. Your bewilderment about the situation doesn't seem to be letting up as you decide what to do next. Will you walk up to a smaller window set nearer to the attic floor, trying to see if you can get out that way (turn to 28)? Or are you curious about the contents of the attic and want to open one of the cupboards (turn to 80) or one of the chests (turn to 43)? Or perhaps you would prefer to leave them be and go investigate the banging sound (turn to 22)?
