Mansion of Maleficence by Per Jorner - Introduction - Rules - Start - Sections

You emerge into a wide space, your eyes immediately falling on a sloping rectangular outline set somewhere in between the wall and the ceiling. A coal chute! You rush forward, clambering up what you take to be a long-forgotten mound of coal. The lid on the chute is kept firmly in place by a padlock, but this does not seem too stout and you should be able to find something with which to smash it or maybe unscrew the hinges. As you turn to search the room for any tools, the lumps of coal shift underneath your feet and you lose your balance, tumbling to the floor and scraping your chin. Groaning, you get to your feet. To your consternation, bits of coal are still rolling and tumbling down the mound, having been disturbed by your movements. Finally the soft clattering stops and everything comes to rest. Or does it? Turn to 12.
