You pick the book up, reading a few paragraphs and flicking a couple of pages to find out what it's about. It's written in an archaic style and seems to go on about ghosts, mysteries, supernatural killings and that sort of thing. You cannot quite decide if this is supposed to be taken seriously or if it's some kind of elaborate fiction. As your hand brushes against the table, disturbing a thick layer of dust, a thought enters into your head. You turn back to the bookmarked spread, running your fingertips over the page. There is only the slightest hint of dust - but maybe there was more before you picked the book up and started flipping the pages? If you want to make another effort to figure the book out you must Test your Resource. If you are successful, turn to 66. Else you cannot quite make sense of the contents and may instead turn to the books on the floor (turn to 18), examine the grandfather clock (turn to 68), or leave to investigate elsewhere (turn to 58).
