International Music Association ( IMF ) is a non - profit association that was founded in 1993 to prevent drug and alcohol abuse amongst children and youths in Sweden. IMF was also founded to increase the swedish society knowledge to the gipsy ( roma ) people and to decrease the racism and the hostility towards foreigners in Sweden.
IMF is the most active association within gipsy culture and history in Sweden. IMF yearly tours around Sweden with different exhibitions about gipsies , lectures , musicprograms , showings of gipsy films etc , for schools , organisations , authorities , institutes etc. IMF:s exhibition about swedish and european gipsies is ranked as the largest exhibition about gipsies in the intire Scandinavia. It includes over 500 authentic pictures and illustrations from their wandering , persecution , and to the young gipsies of today.

The exhibition also includes traditional clothes , craftsmanship , jewellery etc.IMF is also involved in a number of drug and alcohol abuse preventing projects. One of them is ”Malmoe without drugs and prejudice” which they self founded in 1998. Read more about the project.

IMF also has a school of music where they teach children and youths between the age of 7 and 16 years to play the piano , keyboard , guitar or the violin. The children gets at least 3 lessons per week and can therefore achieve very good results in a short time. The school of music is a very popular activity and it´s also the associations largest activity with a total of 80 pupils. The pupils has after very short times education already performed on the Malmoefestival - 1999.
During the last 10 years , gipsies has become a highly topical subject and IMF has created Europes , and maybe possibly the worlds first gipsy library where you of curiosity or as a student or for research kan increase your knowledge to the culture and history of the gipsies.

IMF:s own musicgroup ”Gipsy Brothers” tours around Sweden and most of the European countries with a great show of music including traditional chardaz and more modern gipsy music.

IMF:s nigth wanderers are out on the streets and squares on holidays and weekendnights so that young people can have fun without getting in to trouble or trying drugs or alcohol. IMF arranges annually great gipsy music festivals in Sweden for the public , the next one is in 2001. IMF also plans to create Europes first gipsy museum in Malmoe , Sweden!
