Don't Be a Hero

                        by Sain Sucha

Don't be a hero,

When someone else urges you to be one!

That kind of heroes,

Mislead by others with devious motives,

   When coaxed in the name of

               Religion,

               Country,

               Or honour;

   Do heroic deeds like:

               Killing innocent children,

               Raping virtuous women,

               And slaughtering blameless citizens;

   People

               They have never met,

               Have never known,

               Who have done them no harm.

But,

   Out of your own conviction and compassion,

   When you

               Extend a helping hand to a needy,

               Infuse a smile on the weeping face of a child,

               Bring shine to the eyes that have abandoned hope,

Then

   You are a

              fellow human-being!

Remember!

   Those who perform like heroes

      on someone else's command

               Often die young,

               Or are maimed and crippled,

               And have scalded minds

                        for the rest of their lives;

While

   It is the sneaky and sly who aspire to run this world!

   They never endanger their own skin or

                                               that of their dear ones'.

   They send you to do their dirty work,

   To have a clean house of their own.

So

   Don't be a hero,

   When someone else urges you to be one!

But,

   Be a fellow human-being,

   Out of your own conviction and compassion!
