My Py Bäckman Page

Py Bäckman is a Swedish singer as well as a text and music writer in the field of rock'n roll who in recent years has written song texts for the group Nordman, a group with roots in Swedish folk music, which is very obvious when you listen to their rock music. The texts by Py are on Middle Age themes and they have become a great success.

Together with Dan Hylander Py created Raj Montana Band, which became a very popular group and last year (1997) when they made a reunion during the summer, showed that they really have a place in the heart of the Swedish people. Raj Montana was an American car-thief that Dan had read about in a paper.

Because of their engagement for ANC Raj Montana Band actually performed in South Africa, where the audience thought the long hair of Dan was very funny and the appearance of Peps Person completely stupid. Nevertheless, Peps became very popular among the black people of South Africa.

Py is really great. Her texts are never just any texts, they always have something to say and frequently some of of us have to consult an encyclopedia to understand what she is writing about.

She appears to be a very nice, warm, positive and funny person with unusual human qualities. Her engagement in ANC and the movement against painful animal research are examples.

In 1988 she wrote the Swedish entry, Stad i ljus (City in light), to the European Song contest, which was performed by Tommy Körberg. The song was great and until recently I thought it was Jonny Logan who was greater when I heard that it was Celine Dion (!?).

Stad i ljus was submitted by the pseudonym "Oykuf" which was a bit peculiar until people understood that it should be read backwards.

In the early 90's (?) Py performed her own song Långt härifrån (Far from here) in the Swedish trial contest but did not manage to be selected as the Swedish entry.

In a recent TV-interview Py revealed that she once was a model for a painter who did those sexy girls which were common on covers of cheap detective novels.

She also said that was about to be 50 and that perhaps you can not continue with rock'n roll at that age and then she sang her latest song which was very much country. Perhaps we will see her in Nashville soon.

Is it apparent that I like her?

The other pictures have been scanned from LP and MC covers and they are obviously the property of the record company.
